COVID-19, short for Coronavirus Disease 2019, is an infectious disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. It was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has since become a global pandemic. Since May 5, 2023 the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 pandemic no longer a global health emergency. COVID-19 primarily spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, and it can also spread by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching the face. The disease can cause a range of symptoms, from mild respiratory illness to severe pneumonia, and it has led to significant health, social, and economic impacts worldwide. COVID-19 is to be treated as any other respiratory illness such as the flu. Please go to nearest emergency if you have trouble breathing or call 811 for further instructions.

Head lice are small insects that live on the scalp. Anyone can get head lice. They are common in classroom sand day care centres because children play closely together. Headlice are not dangerous and they do not spread disease, but they are contagious and can be a very pesky problem. Having dirty hair does not cause head lice. Head lice cannot fly or jump and you cannot get them from your pets. While they may be found anywhere on the head, they prefer to live on the scalp along the neckline and behind the ears. When live bite the scalp they cause itching.

Dog safety is paramount for both humans and our furry companions. When interacting with dogs, it’s crucial to approach them calmly and respectfully, avoiding sudden movements that may startle them. Always ask permission from the owner before petting or approaching a dog, and never disturb a dog while it’s eating or sleeping. It is important we keep in mind that any dog can bite, but the frequency of occurrences may increase with more stray dogs around our community.
